Are You a Product of Your Circumstances or Decisions?

Product of my decisions

“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.”
~ Stephen R. Covey

I am a product of my own decisions.  I do not let my circumstances define who I am.  I define who I am through my decision-making. Through this process, I retain all of the power.  By letting circumstances dictate your life, you give up control.  Without this control, your life will feel out-of-control.

Life is full of change.  That is an invariable fact.  You are going to experience plenty of change in your life.  These changes can be defined as your circumstances.  But don’t become a product of your circumstances.  Decide to rise above your circumstances.  That makes you the product of your decisions.  When you decide to do anything, you are taking control.  Control is power!

The choice is simple.  Become the product of your own decisions.  You will feel more confident and more in control of your own life!

Discipline or Regret

Discipline or Regret

“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.”
~ Jim Rohn

In the past, I have heard of the phrase “the agony of defeat”.  I suppose that it is similar to the “pain of regret” which is part of the above quote.  However, I didn’t know there was another choice.  The opposite of suffering the pain of regret is to exercise the power of discipline which sounds like an awesome option!  I’m so glad that we hold the power the exercise the pain of discipline over the pain of regret.

To live with regret is to suffer greatly.  I know because I have neglected or refused to do certain things that later on I’ve regretted not doing and, by that time, it was too late.  Whether it’s meeting new people, attending a show, applying for a job, when the opportunity is gone, sadly it’s usually gone for good.

The good news is that the power of discipline is always at our disposal.  If we lead a life of discipline, we have a wonderful chance of missing very few opportunities; therefore, living with little, if any, regret.

Resolve to Be Happy

Resolve to be Happy

To get up each morning with the resolve to be happy is to set your own conditions to the events of each day. To do this is to condition circumstances instead of being conditioned by them.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Living life on our own terms is a privilege.  Taking back our life from the events of the day and deciding that, instead of being conditioned by these events, we will resolve to be happy is true power.

Ralph Waldo Emerson could not have said it better when he said to get up each morning with resolve or intention to be happy and to set our own condition about the events of the day.  I believe this is what brings true happiness.  Controlling our own destiny, which is essentially our own responses to situations, will make us the happiest.  Why?  Because we are in charge of our destiny.

I believe we as humans are built to be leaders.  When that leadership is somehow impugned, we feel powerless.  We feel depressed.  We feel out of control.  However, when we take that control back, regardless of circumstances, our resolve comes back.  We set our intention and live by it and that is a beautiful thing.
